A Year of Fun Has Just Begun

This weekend we marked our 1 year anniversary. I have to say that after being together for so long, not too much changed when we got married. However, there really is a giddiness inside of me when I think that I have actually been Mrs. Lomax for one year now. I am pretty sure that David feels it to - there is such a permanence associated with sharing a name. We truly are a family now. I can't really explain it but it is just something I feel inside. Basically - I love you David and I love being your wife.

Ok so now on to the details! Friday night we went to Medieval Times with Amy and Patrick. It was so freakin' awesome. We cheered the yellow knight! Unfortunately he was the first knight killed but in the end the good guys prevailed and the baddy was off-ed. Here is a picture of Amy and us taken on Patrick's phone.

When we got home we let George run around outside for awhile but David and I got into a minor tiff about who knows what. Basically it all boiled down to the fact that we were both exhausted. So we went to bed and I slept until 11:30 Saturday morning! Talk about tired. Honestly I think I could still be asleep if I tried, but alas I will have plenty of time for that when I'm dead!

Saturday was another fun filled day. We got up and went to the grocery store and then I cooked a Paper Picnic to celebrate our anniversary. I set up a blanket in the front room (it snowed that morning so it was too cold outside) and cooked fried chicken, corn on the cob, and mashed potatoes. Yummy! We used paper products left over from the wedding. Super cute idea. Thanks Lyds! David took the opportunity to give me my presents which were fun return address labels. The standard ones say Amy & David Lomax and the Christmas ones have caricatures of David, Amy, George, and Charlie dressed in Christmas type accessories. So cute! Later that night we went Christmas shopping and got several people crossed off the list! I am determined not to panic this year and not wait until the last minute. Also David is getting to help this time, since I do not have to shop in some random city in the US. This early shopping is also in response to my desire to never Christmas shop in 6 inches of snow and slush again - I suppose this will change once I have kids, of the two-legged variety, and they need to sit on Santa's lap, but for now I am good with dry toes and non-frost- bitten hands. And to top off Saturday, Georgia Tech won and Miami lost! YAY! I think we might make the ACC championship now. Way to go guys!

Sunday was great. We got up late (I didn’t even flinch before my 9:30am alarm clock went off – I am telling you I am taking exhaustion to a whole new level) and went to church. The sermon had 7 very good points – I just didn’t really get the full connection. The song selection was awesome though. After church we had lunch and watched some football. Then we carved the two pumpkins David picked out on Saturday. We were in a hurry so we just carved traditional faces – but I really like them anyway. Then we decorated the house and the outside with the Halloween décor. I have posted some pictures below! David also had to put up the new door bell - since I am still working on painting the entryway, I took the opportunity to replace the doorbell unit with a white one to match the trim. Then around 3:30pm the kids started coming for the neighborhood trick-and-treating. I know it’s not Halloween yet but that’s the way it went down! I am convinced that just means the kids will come twice but that’s great because we have WAY too much candy left! One kid who was really sweaty asked if I had some bottled water I could give him. I didn’t but of course I had Gatorade! So he was quite happy to take that. He politely didn’t even take any candy. I thought this was very funny because I have never had a request and negotiations from a trick-or-treater before. We dressed George up as a ghost. The kids loved it! He was so excited every time the doorbell rang. It was good times. While that was going on, I wrapped the Christmas presents and caught up with Brothers and Sisters and Grey’s Anatomy – I am seriously behind! David worked in the basement to plumb up the sink for the wet bar. Next week is going to be really gross because we have to cut into the main sewer line. That ought to smell just peachy. Once the kids were done we put on my wedding dress again! I’m not gonna lie – it was tight. But it fit! And it is still beautiful. Then we went to dinner at Keywester. It’s a seafood place that we had never been too. It was neat and fun. I don’t know how often we will go back but it was a new fun thing to do. After dinner we headed home and ate the first tier of our cake. Ok for any new brides who might be reading this: don’t fall into this trap. It was awful. Seriously – I can still taste it. Bad times! It was a wonderful evening. I have posted pictures below.

We talked a lot about our wedding and the past year and what we want from the future. It was an awesome reflection. We went through so much this year. And we really did grow more together. It was truly a weird thing to go from wedding gowns to hospital gowns so quickly but what a blessing in disguise. David really proved to me and my parents that he can be trusted with my life. I know that he will make an amazing father just as he is truly a gift of a husband. I just hope that when the time comes, I won’t forget that he can do things too and that his way might not be my way but the kids will be fine! We have decided that this year we are going to focus on the positive, and to realize that bad things will happen but what really matters are the good things. I have also decided to apologize to him more quickly. To not focus on what he did wrong, but to focus on what I did and how I can change that. I truly hope that everyone can experience true love and what all it means, because it is the best gift you can ever imagine.

Well that was my weekend! I will post more later on but seriously I have to get to work!
